Doug Macaskill started playing guitar after the Beatles dominated the pop scene in the 60’s. “I want to be George!” was his anthem.
Doug toured and recorded with some of Canada’s leading acts in the seventies and eighties. Apart from being a member of the Stampeders, Moxy, and the Arrows, he worked as a sideman for British blues legend Long John Baldry and Bob McBride[Lighthouse]. Session work in Toronto followed. Although Rock and R&B were his staples, Doug’s uncle Bain Macaskill, a jazz musician, exposed him to the finest jazz musicians of the time which helped him develop a style that is a mixture of rock, funk, jazz and country.
Moving to LA in 1987 he melted into the studio scene recording with the likes of Mr. Mister, Rick Springfield, Rod Stewart, Diana Ross, Laura Branigan and many others. Since the 90’s sessions transitioned from songwriters to TV. For the last 20 years he has been a mainstay of 15 time Emmy winner Dominic Messinger, receiving acclaim from the Television Academy of Arts and Sciences for his contributions to several Emmy winning shows. His work with Steve Kaplan meant fans of “Jeopardy” and “Wheel of Fortune” listened to Doug for years.
When not working on the latest episode of “The Young and Restless” Doug can be found playing around town with the Swing Kings.
